The article is devoted to the study of the experience of the Tambov Regional Local History Museum – one of the oldest museums in Russia, founded in 1879 – and to understanding its role as a model for creating a school mini-museum in a rural school. The history of the formation of museum funds, the specifics of collecting work associated with the names of outstanding local historians of the Tambov region (I.I. Dubasov, A.V. Vysheslavtsev, B.N. Chicherin) are considered. The principles on which a mini-museum can be built in the Sayukino branch of the Platovskaya Secondary School (village of Sayukino, Rasskazovo municipal district of the Tambov region) are described, based on the local history of the village – from the first mention in the salary books of 1702 to the everyday traditions of the peasant way of life. The significance of a school museum as a space for family-school interaction in preserving the cultural and everyday heritage of the small homeland is substantiated.
